After collecting all of your generous tips for almost a year, I stopped. I still
had not chosen a charity and did not want to get overwhelmed with more donations.
I was very thoughtful. I knew what I wanted in a charity and I knew I would not
hand over money to just anyone. It was a given that I (we - thank you everyone for
your tips)) would be giving to a school for young children in need. I wanted to
help kids in their formative years specifically, knowing that this is a prime time
to inspire and build confidence in children. Coming from a home of two true to the
core artist parents and reaping the benefits of endless and overflowing arts and
culture, it was important that this organization be progressive and educating
through art. I wanted to see kids in an environment that encourages higher
learning and where the students are flourishing on a daily basis. I was adamant
that whoever was the recipient of this donation that they walk the walk being 100%
dedicated. I thought about all the details, my wish list so to speak: The kids
eat organic food, they go on field trips, they have an amazing library, the
parents are fully involved in their kid's learning... Well believe me when I say, if
you ask for it you just may get it (especially if your intentions are good) because I
did. Down to the organic food.
Para Los Niños is a blessing. It is the most wonderful school, childhood
development center, community outreach that I know of in Los Angeles. Get Waxed
whole-heartedly embraces them as one of our family. We hope you will too.
Para Los Niños opened its doors in 1980 in response to
the plight of children living in Skid Row hotels. Initially,
45 children received daycare at the agency; today, in its
29th year of operation, Para Los Niños strives to address
the root causes of poverty and annually assists 4,600 low
income children and youth, and 4,000 economically challenged
families from 28 sites throughout Southern California.
The agency's core programs revolve around educational
and family support services. Education programs include
early childhood services, Charter Schools (K-6), after
school enrichment, youth diversion and delinquency
prevention, youth workforce services, and a life skills training
and academic assistance program for transitioning foster
youth. Para Los Niños offers emergency and ongoing
comprehensive support to at-risk families, including food
and shelter vouchers, child abuse and domestic violence
prevention, parenting skills, and mental health services.
